He claimed was a ‘fat buster’:
‘No exercise, no diet, no effort’ with Garcinia Cambogia
Dr. Mehmet Oz is seeking cover, yet again, after promoting a weight loss supplement that I can barely pronounce on his weight loss show. A new class action lawsuit has been filed against the famous TV doctor/personality for his claims that this supplement is going to help you lose weight with basically no exercise, no diet or no effort.
He first gave this product a plug in a 2013 show and used a scientific study to back his promotions. That study has since been discredited for it lack of vigour and scientific processes. He was not advertising a specific brand, but his claims caused the sales of Garcinia Cambogia to skyrocket because of what is fast-becoming known as the ‘Oz-Effect’. If this doctor gets on TV and promotes a weight loss product that you basically swallow and melts the fat away, then even the most dubious of us could be sucked in.
Even though he didn’t promote a single brand, this lawsuit is aimed at supplement seller Labrada, Dr. Oz and Harpo Productions, and there are damages being sought as well as refunds. Many viewers are claiming that they bought the product after they watched the show. I can only imagine how many of these viewers literally expected to go out purchasing a new wardrobe of smaller dress sizes but it looks like that didn’t happen.
So, what’s the take-home message?
As always, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Sorry, back to the healthy eating and regular movement people! Even if there was a ‘quick fix’, which let’s face it, is yet to be found, please always question the consequences of such a quick fix. Swallowing a pill is never going to the be same as nourishing your body with delicious, fresh food and the invigoration from moving your body!
